Rohrer & Klingner Solferino [full size photo] – I was recently sent some of this fantastic Rohrer & Klingner ink. This is the first time I have seen or even used any Rohrer & Klingner ink before. I have to tell you, right off the bat – I am very impressed. Rohrer & Klingner Solferino reminds me of a beautiful grape juice – purple color. Its a very bright and bold ink, a color that I really enjoy. It has a nice smooth and wet consistent feel to it. I loaded the Rohrer & Klingner Solferino in my Swan Blackbird (wetish noodle) the flex of the Swan really helps bring out the gorgeous hue of the ink. I found the ink does feather a bit in the Swan, but it most likely due to the flex that the nib provides. Along with the feathering brings some showthrough, but again this is really mostly due to the nib and how much ink the Swan puts down. Surprisingly, the ink dries very fast, even when using the Rohrer & Klingner Solferino in the flexy Swan.
I have six more of the Rohrer & Klingner inks to test out, I really hope they all are as fun to use as the Solferino. I am a big fan of bold inks you just don’t expect to see come out of a pen. This is one of them. I happily will order more of this ink once my current supply is depleted.
The one difficult thing about Rohrer & Klingner is finding somewhere to buy it. It is sort of elusive… not many retailers stock it. Most people who buy it have to get it from overseas through the internet. That is about to change for people in the USA, but we will get back to that later. All I can say is it should be easier to get these wonderful inks without having to pay exorbitantly high shipping rates.
