J Herbin Vert Pre [full size photo] – Green is my favorite color, my eyes are green, limes are green and most of all Ireland is green! So, its not shocking that 1. I love this green & 2. It just so happens to be a J Herbin ink. This is a simple lime ink that isn’t really so simple. Great shading, very vivid, sharp color, this is an ink that really wants to be used often. I can see this being awesome in a flex / broad nib.
I inked up my el cheapo Hero 330 fine point fountain pen, and put this ink through it’s paces. It finished with flying colors. Even with a fine point, there is fantastic shading, it comes off a little dry in this Hero, but not really that bad in other pens. People at work seem to love it, it seems to draws them in a bit… like a little muse. It also seems to make people smile when I use it. Its one of those colors people never – ever – expect to see come out of a pen. I love that.
Thanks J Herbin for an awesome ink & the element of surprise 😉
Here are some of the other J Herbin Inks I have reviewed.
J Herbin was established in 1670, when Louis XIV, the Sun King, was 32 years old.
M. Herbin was a sailor, and from his many journeys to India he brought back to Paris formulas for manufacturing sealing wax. His special lacquer formula improved the quality of the seals in adhesion and neatness, helping him to become famous throughout the kingdom.
J. Herbin is also the oldest name in ink production in the world.
By 1700, the company was producing “l’Encre de la Tete Noire,” followed by “Perle des Encres,” (The Jewel of Inks) and “l’Encre des Vaisseaux” (The Ink of Ships).
J. Herbin made ink for Louis XIV, and a black ink for the sole use of Victor Hugo, author of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Les Miserables. These formulas still reside in our company archives in Paris.
I purchased this ink from: Peartreepens.com (Fountain Pen Ink Samples Program)
