kill the .net log-in

i hate that .net framework requires you by default to login to your windows machine. anyhoo, i found this tip somewhere on the net awhile ago, and figured i would share… sadly, i cannot remember where i found it.

If you’re the only person using your computer and you’ve installed Microsoft’s .Net Framework upgrade, you can no longer boot into Windows without stopping at the log-in screen. To remove this step, select Start, Run, type “control userpasswords2” and press Enter. In the User Accounts dialog box, select your own log-in name from the four listed (the others will be Administrator, ASPNET, and Guest), uncheck “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer,” and click OK. In the resulting dialog box, make sure that your log-in name is in the user name field, leave both password fields blank, and click OK.

installing summerboard for the ipod touch

Using Installer.app on your iPod Touch, install SummerBoard 2.11. Restart your iPod Touch. When your iPod Touch boots back up, do not worry if your dock is stuck at the top of the screen.

Download this file and extrat the files to a folder.
Download: http://www.nullriver.com/~zigzag/SummerBoard.zip

Open that folder you created and using the SFTP program, SSH into your iPod Touch, (you will need Wifi connection on your iPod Touch for this).

For those that don’t know how to find your IP go to the Settings > WiFi > Under your network name tap on the blue arrow > IP Address.
Type that into your connection box.
User: root
Password: alpine (unless your already changed it)

Once you have SSH’d into your iPod Touch navigate to these folders, delete the file/folder below and replace it with the file you have just downloaded:

(SummerBoard.framework)

(SMBPrefs.app)

(Themes)

(com.apple.SpringBoard.plist)

Once you have successfully replace these 4 files/folders set all permissions to 755

Restart your iPod Touch and enjoy SummerBoard.

sometimes you will need to change the permissions on the touch… this is how you do it.

1. ssh into your ipod touch w/ terminal / putty etc…
ssh root@youripodsipaddress
enter your password

2. then type the following:
chmod -R a+x /Applications/*

change the default password for your jailbreaked ipod

its important to note that there is a possiablity that someone could (although unlikely) hack into your ipod after you jailbreak it. since the default password for “root” is “alpine”. so to be safe its easy to change and will make it a bit tougher for someone to hack your ipod and act as if they were god.

1. ssh into you ipod via terminal / putty / whatever:
ssh root@youripodipaddress
enter your password

then type: passwd
it will ask for a new password and to confirm it.

viola you have just reset your ipod touch root password.
