well, it has been about a month since i bought my new Apple iPhone 3g. it replaced my trusty yet aging Palm Treo 700w. i opted for the 16gb version of the iPhone 3g in black. so here are some of my thoughts.

3. no file storage
4. keypad takes a bit to get used to
5. no spell checking
6. battery life is sad
7. speed – while better than the first version is still inconsistent
8. camera could use some help, ie zoom, faster shutter etc…
9. it should be easier to move apps from one page to another
10. i HATE that i have to have AT&T as my carrier
so those are my personal likes and dislikes. what about real world usage?
i have to say i cannot put this device down. i absolutely love it, even with it’s shortcomings. remember this is only the second version of the first phone Apple has ever put out. if you understand that, you have to agree it is amazing. many other manufacturers like Nokia atc… have put out hundreds if not thousands of phones with multiple versions in just about every country in the world. now i must admit i am not a cellphone expert, but i have never used / held / owned a phone as robust as this iPhone. even with all the experience the other cellphone companies have, they cannot compare. even when it comes to their iPhone wannabe knockoffs.
By the way if you are looking to by some Mac products
Rants & Raves
phone quality seems to be much better than version 1. sound is vastly improved. the contacts menu seems to lag, and i wish it was easier to call up the search field & keyboard. email seems to work very well, i have 5 email accounts setup. all seem to work without any problems. setting up email accounts is a breeze. installing apps from the app store is pretty easy, although it seem some apps take forever to install. this may be a problem with my “broadband” speeds, the size of the app, or apples servers. i dont really trust too many of the reviews that are shown. since you can review an app even if you have not downloaded and installed it. to me that dilutes the whole review process. videos play very well on the device as expected no problems at all with that. speakerphone is good, although i hate using it so i guess i cant comment too much about that feature. syncing iPhone to me.com is rather easy, however syncing me.com to my macs is a bitch. more on that in a future post….
In Closing
the Apple iPhone 3g is becoming an extension of my digital life. i have pictures of my son, music, movies, games [i actually enjoy playing], applications that are fun and very useful, and platform that will be extremely extensible. i am more than happy with my purchase even if I have to deal with my dislikes and that fact i am an AT&T customer.
